The US Open is in full swing and you know there will be some close calls. But who gets the final decision? Oftentimes it’s Hawk-Eye, a British computer-vision system.

Instead of measuring where the ball hit the ground, Hawk-Eye analyzes footage from multiple cameras in real-time to predict where the ball is going.

Unlike 1st & Ten, the NFL’s yellow CG first down line, Hawk-Eye has applications beyond tennis and is already being used in cricket, badminton, and volleyball.
